““We have taken 9,500 scooters, dirt bikes and ATVs off the streets since January 1 until now. Out of those 9,500, 2,500 in the Bronx alone,” deputy commissioner of operations Kaz Daughtry said in April, following what has become a widespread rise in moped crime. “

Where from and how are they getting them?

In Tampa FL we have motorized bicycle riders who have taken over the sidewalks (where there are any). They won’t ride in the streets because our traffic is too dangerous for them so instead they are displacing pedestrians on sidewalks who have nowhere else to go.

These bike riders are heavily attired and wear helmets and goggles and none of them speak English. The tires on their bikes are four to six inches in thickness. They are a danger and a menace but law enforcement is totally absent in Hillsborough County so these bikers get to do as they please.

Amazon. Electric ride-on scooters are so cheap they are almost disposable. I just bought one capable of 30 mph for 40 minutes for $258. I could “lose” 2/month and still be ahead of car payment and insurance. Good enough for DC.

Trying the scooter nonsense around here would mean hitting an open door and facing a previously concealed pistol. Since we implemented ccw then followed permitless carry road rage went away. Street crime except for the drug trade ceased.
