There actually are
photos of her as a child. There are also people who remember her as a child. She came from a locally prominent family, so it would have been a major scandal if a boy became a girl. Just what happened to the brother, I don't know, but he was 8 years older, so she'd be closer to 80 than to 70 if she were him. And of course, she had those three kids.
