CHICAGO (WLS) -- The shooting victims from over the weekend range in age from 13 to 57, representing various parts of the city, and the violence has some seeking new solutions.
South Lawndale residents met with police on Monday following a staggering number of weekend shootings.
At least 71 people were shot, nine of them killed, across the city from Friday evening to Monday morning, police said.
"Seventy people being shot is 70 too many. The fact is, we've got work to do. While we're making progress, we've got so much more to do," said 22nd Ward Ald. Mike Rodriguez.
At least two-dozen people were shot during a five-hour period from midnight to 5 a.m. Monday.
Five of them were shot in West Humboldt Park after a large crowd had gathered at a gas station.
The gunfire sent people running in a moment of chaos captured by surveillance cameras.
About an hour later, at least seven people were shot in a barrage of gunfire near 62nd and Winchester in West Englewood.

Mayor Brandon Johnson is too busy working on a reparations task force.
You ain’t seen nothing yet. Just wait till the Government tells the 20 million illegals into the US they can no longer give them “free stuff” and they should go back to their country of origin. Let the riots begin.

Obviously, no one really cares about the residents of the south and west sides of Chicago.
Because, if they did, these weekly atrocities would cease!
These areas of the city have more casualties a week than most war-torn countries around the world.
That’s almost as embarrassing as having Joe Biden as President of the United States!
And, there are no massive protests on college campuses decrying the inhumanity of it all!
The south and west sides of Chicago have been relegated to hopelessness.
Is the city of Chicago God-forsaken or have Chicagoans, simply, forsaken prayer?
OK, so midnight basketball is right out.
Of course.
The answer is always more laws and more restrictive ones for the criminals to ignore.
But “crime is down.”
Wait until the Democrat Convention this August. Going to look like the Battle of the Bulge.
