Black History Month started as Negro History Week--which was started by a black scholar. He picked February because of Lincoln's birthday (and maybe Frederick Douglass--who complained in his autobiography that he didn't know his own birthday, but seems to have picked Feb. 17 because it's halfway between Lincoln's birthday and Washington's birthday).
February may only have 28 or 29 days, but black history is celebrated for several days around Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday, and of course we now also have Juneteenth.
Maybe Morgan Freeman's point is that all 12 months should be devoted to black history, not just one month.

The month may be part of the issue but I wonder if the real issue is all American history should be black history.
