We Jews have become a bit spoiled by the level of tolerance and acceptance we have enjoyed in America, especially since the Holocaust. My grandparents and great grandparents,who came here from Eastern Europe to escape antisemitism at the turn of the 20th century would not have been surprised.
Only a few years ago I would not have believed that antisemitism could ever raise its hideous head again--and in America of all places.
