That wasn't as obvious in 2008 as it became later. The public believed the Deep State insider was John McCain - which is hard to argue against. It was easy for the politically inattentive (which includes 95% of Asian immigrants) to think Obama was some kind of cool, hip outsider who would change the world.
My wife is an Asian immigrant and back in 2008 before I met her her ignorant US-born son convinced her to vote for Obama because McCain was likely to take away her green card and deport her. Now she is a rip-roaring Trump supporter who thinks Obama is the biggest jerk in history - thanks to my influence. :)
