Wyden Probes Kushner Firm Payments from Gulf States, Potential FARA Loophole

"Affinity’s Unusually High Fees Charged to Foreign Clients Amount to Tens of Millions in Profits Each Year; Wyden Seeks Records on Employees, Compensation, Communications with Foreign Government Entities; Letter also Raises Concerns with Investment Fund Disclosure Loophole"

Washington, D.C. – Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today launched a new investigation of top Trump official Jared Kushner’s investment firm Affinity Partners, which reported that 99 percent of the billions of dollars it manages comes from foreign sources, primarily the sovereign wealth funds of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar. In a new letter, Senator Wyden sought records and information pertaining to the tens of millions in payments Kushner is receiving from the Saudis and other foreign sources every year while exploiting private investment fund disclosure loopholes to shield the arrangement from public scrutiny. The letter also noted that the firm’s reliance on foreign investors raises concerns that Middle Eastern governments are using payments to Affinity executives as a means to influence Kushner and other politically powerful individuals.

Senator Wyden wrote to Affinity Partners Chief Financial Officer Lauren Key: “It is deeply concerning that several Middle Eastern governments are using funds managed by Affinity as a means to pay tens of millions of dollars in fees every year to former President Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, creating significant conflicts of interest and potential counterintelligence risks. These arrangements also raise concerns that Affinity’s exclusively foreign funded private investment funds are being exploited as a loophole by Mr. Kushner and other former U.S. government officials as a means to avoid complying with the Foreign Agents Registration Act and other U.S. laws requiring U.S. persons to disclose payments from foreign governments.”

Kushner also negotiated the “Stay in Mexico” deal that had Mexico actually helping to control the border. He was well-liked and respected. Ditto in working with the Arabs

Kushner also worked with Navarro and others to get private companies working with the federal govt on pandemic task force logistics …much needed

I think he was one of the most quiet but effective diplomats and envoys the US has had for a long while, certainly don’t have any now. But…he and Ivanka opted out of politics, who could blame them given the vicious attacks faced by any family friend or associate of President Trump

“My ire is on Kushner, who with Ivanka as undermined MAGA in the past. I noted his apparently success in help Trump secure the Abraham Accords, but all of the millions of dollars of deals after that look unseemly and no different that what Hunter did. Both Hunter and Jared are foreign agents, profiting, and should be kept far from the White House.”

Agreed. I have never liked Kushner much, and I much prefer Don, Jr.’s politics to that of Ivanka; she and Jared are just typical NYC liberal Jews (and I’m Jewish, so I can both call them out on it and be as disgusted as ever with that type of people). They should, indeed, be kept away from the campaign and the WH. This information only makes that more imperative.

Wyden is STUPIDLY EVIL!!

That may be, but at least his office in Oregon does help his constituents. His office helped my brother with the VA and my nephews widow with immigration from Thailand.

Of course, that is simply a senators job, and won't actually win him any votes.

He’s too predictable. Like many here, he tries to seem like one of us and then backs the totalitarian government in due course. He’s fooling no one but they make navigating this site annoying. Maybe that’s their aim.

If Jared’s group has filed for under FARA and are looking out for their foreign clients correctly, is there a legal issue? I’m not discussing the ethical or moral issues but ones that will a person thrown in jail for violating US code. There are legitimate reasons for this. Maybe he is still looking out for the Abraham accords and getting paid by the signatory countries to not have the progressives nul them. There are trade issues that they could be working on.
Other than the political tit for tat that this may be there is a lot of legitimate work that can be done.
