Why is he the last WASP POTUS? Why aren’t Clinton or Chimpy not WASPs? Why isn’t Trump considered a WASP? What kind of nonsense is that?

He was a New Englander. When the worst elements of English middle-class pretense, class consciousness and the accompanying class paranoia, are deposited in dreary New England they are joined by the racial anxiety of the most rootless and uncertainly-derived non-Gypsies any genealogist could hope to fictionalize. There is a no more self-promoting and projecting racist this side of India than a "whiter than you" New Englander. The towheaded farmer from Indiana, the freckled red head driller from Oklahoma, the blue-eyed kid who lives up the the "hollas" of western Virginia (whose family has been there for more than three hundred years) are all less white than a half-Sicilian who is also just as likely to claim the be Native American and be a member of the Pequot Nation. But if he buys one more set of Shaker furniture and maybe another unsigned water painting of apples from the local thrift story (it's found treasure, don't you know), he's sure to turn into a real white boy!

Freeper Dr. Sivana posted this on another thread recently:

Here is a definition from Perplexity ai:

Some key points about WASPs:

The term emerged in the 1960s to describe the elite upper class of American society that had roots tracing back to the original English Protestant settlers of the 17th century.

WASPs historically held a position of power, wealth, and influence in American society, politics, academia, and culture for several centuries.

The WASP establishment was seen as promoting its own cultural values and traditions derived from Northern European Protestant backgrounds.

Over time, the WASP elite’s influence has declined as American society became more diverse and meritocratic, though remnants of the old establishment persist in certain institutions.

The term can have negative connotations of exclusivity, snobbery, and discrimination against non-WASPs, though it was originally a sociological descriptor.

The term's reference to northerners would exclude Clinton. Many of the southern whites trace their lineage to the 1800s when there was a large migration from Scotland. Most Scots were Gaels or Celts, not Anglo-Saxons.

I suppose Trump could be ethnically be called a WASP from his German side, but his forebearers migrated much later -- his Trump grandfather from Germany and his mother from Scotland.
