Houston keeps the same hours as Edmonton. After 6pm, about the only things that are open is a couple of grocery stores and the few nightclubs that are still operating.

Downtown Houston is not residential, so most things shut down after the evening commute. Only the theater district is open late.
Get away from the downtown area and you'll start to see more conventional evening life.
