2 arrested over allegedly defacing BLM mural in California
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — Police in Northern California arrested two men over allegedly vandalizing a Black Lives Matter mural painted on a street in Santa Cruz.
The men allegedly took turns performing burnouts with their vehicles along the mural on a downtown Santa Cruz street, defacing it with tire tread marks. The mural had recently been repainted in celebration of Juneteenth, the Santa Cruz Sentinel reported Sunday.
Santa Cruz police officers on Sunday arrested a 20-year-old and 19-year-old, both of Santa Cruz County, on charges of felony vandalism and conspiracy to commit a felony. Both were released on bail.

My question is why is ANY political symbol, other than the U.S. Flag, painted on ANY roadway. What gives any locality, state, or federal government unit the right to portray allegiance to ANY political movement? To me, if they are to represent ALL the people they have no such right or obligation to make themselves a party to any political movement.
Go on the attack. If every American defaced these crosswalks, they’d stop painting them.
And assault National Park Rangers in the process also with a free pass.

What about the First Amendment right of these two to share or contribute or respond? Does the Constitution limit how they might express themselves?
I would think that the very act of driving over an alphabet-rainbow road decoration would be considered sacrilege. The Japanese would require Dutch traders to step on a crucifix to prove they weren’t Catholic.
Apparently showing contempt for a symbol beloved of one group can send one to prison for 10 years. This doesn’t apply if the symbol is the American flag.
