Why did Democrats overreact to J6th?

They had just overtly stolen a Presidential election and believed the protestors were coming to Lynch them.

They were afraid that it would have turned out to be like the Euromaidan, where the Ukrainians protested against the Russian stooge they had as their President.

I guess in retrospect, the corruption was similar. We did not know at the time of how extensive it was in 2020.
