The Cruisers are on the same hull as the Destroyers I think. Same basic ship just configured differently The Tico Cruisers were built on the 1970's Spruance Class Destroyer hull design. The Arleigh Burke is a completely different hull. The Ticonderoga were always a Destroyer, at 9600 tons displacement. The FLT III Burkes are 9700 tons displacement. The sensor suite on the FLT III is far superior to the cruisers they are replacing.

Interesting to read this. The Desmoines class cruisers weighed in at 18,000 tons or so. Maybe the Navy should go up a couple thousand tons.
