Probably played the "African American" card to get elected, even though his parents are Sri Lankan.
Kinda like Camel Harris.

More middle eastern of southeast Asia. His name sounds Thai to me.

Looks like another African American Affirmative Action pick.Parents were from Sri Lanka - not African. He's likely a Hindu or Muslim.

Mayor:
As I said to my armed driver as I was getting out of the bullet proof glass limo as we got through the gate past the guard booth and nodded to the guy, my two mansion bodyguards give me a feeling of safety in these uncertain times.
They have it easy compared to their heavyweight boxing days. Mostly just standing around and watching.
I told them I’m going to be up late working on my speech against vigilantes.

Background:
Mayor Arunan Arulampalam is from a Jaffna Tamil family. His parents fled Sri Lanka in July 1983, at the start of the Sri Lankan Civil War. They moved to England, where they married, and settled in Zimbabwe. He was born in Bulawayo in 1985. Bulawayo is the main trade center for industrial goods to and from South Africa.🌍

I was wondering, that confirms my suspicions. He’s probably part of the problem.
