I disagree with this article. Reagan won NY and Mass. in 1980 because they were big Ted Kennedy states. The primary brawl with Carter ripped the Democrats in half that year. One of my wife’s distant relatives was Kennedy’s 1980 chairman for Central California and she voted for Reagan.
In 1984, Mondale named Rep. Geraldine Ferraro of NY as his running mate and the Gipper still beat him there. So much for the local female rep helping out.

New York County and the city for that matter hasn’t gone GOP in a presidential election since 1924. Also the last time NY County saw a GOP candidate over 30% was when Nixon won his national landslide in 1972. He ended up with 33.4%.

There basically wasn't any harvesting. Plus, we all voted in one day using paper ballots, and in most places the ballots were expected to be counted that same night, leaving little room for cheating based on the early returns. The only places vulnerable to cheating were those where it was clear before election day that cheating was needed.
The sad thing about Trump’s performance in NYC was that he actually improved his overall percentage of the vote from 18.1% in 2016 to 22.7%(+ 4.6%) in 2020. In comparison, his performance for the whole state was only 1.22% higher from 2016 which means his percentage outside NYC shrank a few points.
