Former President Donald Trump has reportedly started the process of vetting running mate contenders with at least seven candidates reportedly having received documents from his campaign, the New York Post reported on Thursday (June 5).
Republican Sens. Marco Rubio (Florida), JD Vance (Ohio) and Tim Scott (South Carolina), Reps. Byron Donalds (Florida) and Elise Stefanik (New York), North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and former Trump administration Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson have all reportedly exchanged varying degrees of vetting documents with the Trump campaign, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed. The source said that the vetting process has been in the works for the past month.
Trump campaign spokesman Brian Hughes told the New York Post that the former president hasn't made a decision on his running mate nor revealed when he plans to.
“Anyone claiming to know who or when President Trump will choose his VP is lying, unless the person is named Donald J. Trump,” Hughes said in a statement.
Trump previously indicated to News12 that his running mate decision would be made "probably not too much before" the start of the Republican National Convention, where he'll formally be named the GOP presidential nominee, scheduled from July 15 to 18.
“We have so many,” Trump said at the time. ”I don’t want to do that, we have so many.”
“We have many people who would do a fantastic job,” he added.
he better vet cell mates
“Methinks it was Gov. Noem “Big League”, until she came out of the closet as a puppy killing narcissist”.
Yyou sound like a touchy-feely Woke, pro abortion Democrat.
If Stefanik helps win NY that’s great but I wonder if she has enough poise not to melt down on the stump at some point and go viral in a bad way. Ben is solid and helps in Detroit.
You forgot the sarcasm tag.
As a social conservative, it’s starting to get lonely here on the right.
Stefanik?? Really??
Burgum neither.
But, as I say, it’s getting lonely here on the right.
No, I did not.
And I am not going to go back and forth with you. I expressed my opinion and impression and will leave it at that.
Please don’t let it be Marco Rubio.
I really like Vivek, but would rather he choose Vance and get Vivek appointed to replace him in the Senate where he could prove his capabilities to his naysayers.
I like Burghum and Vance too. Couldn’t go wrong with either.
I agree.
Dissention over Trumps choice is the very first thing that the DEMOCRATS are going to look for... we MUST STAY UNIFIED!!!!!
CONgratulate WHOEVER it is and move into VOTING TRUMP on November 5,2024!!!!!!!!
Excellent idea. Vance is my first choice and I greatly admire the extremely intelligent Ramaswamy.
Vivek would make a great Secretary of State, in my opinion a better job for him.
I agree-but he is needed here for the next couple of years to work with pres Trump and be our gov-because he is a kickass attorney and has balls of titanium, like DeSantis is needed in Florida right now. But both are term-limited, so either/both could run in 2028...

Anyone with a political career is disqualified.
Period.
Hopefully he won’t pick a backstabber.
When it comes to personnel choices, sorry to say, he was a disaster.
Let’s hope he learned from his mistakes.
Any list with Florida residents is suspect since Trump would have to give up Florida’s electoral votes. If he could skip them, then DeSantis would be his obvious choice.
The 2028 democrat is absolutely going to be Wes Moore, the current Maryland governor. He is obama2.0 but he has military cred. Trump’s heir apparent needs to be stellar.
I agree.
Some people here on Free Republic, have said they will not vote for Trump, if Trump picks the “wrong” running mate. I disagree with that idea. Every candidate has pluses and minuses. I sure hope that everyone here will focus on the positives of whoever Trump selects, rather than bemoaning the negatives of said candidate.
If Trump is smart enough, he’ll learn from what happened in the past. So the VP won’t be a politician.
