TOWSON, Md. (WBFF) — Baltimore County authorities released a convicted sex offender in the United States illegally despite a request from the federal government to keep him in custody, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security says.
25-year-old Raul Calderon-Interiano was convicted of fourth-degree sex offense and second-degree assault on April 10, 2024 in Baltimore County Circuit Court. Calderon-Interiano was sentenced to six years in prison, but a Baltimore County judge suspended all of his prison time, court records show.
Despite federal immigration officials filing a "detainer" for the county to keep him in custody, the Baltimore County Detention Center released Calderon-Interiano "at an unknown date," DHS says. However, Maryland court records show Calderon-Interiano was released from jail on April 10, 2024, the same day Judge Jan Marshall Alexander suspended his entire prison sentence. Federal officials arrested Calderon-Interiano 49 days later, on May 29, in Baltimore.
A FOX45 News investigation revealed last week that Baltimore County frequently ignores detainer requests from the federal government to keep illegal immigrants in custody. About 70% of detainers were ignored by Baltimore County in fiscal year 2023, ICE data shows.
Baltimore County was unable to provide FOX45 News with details about the charges lodged against the illegal immigrants released in spite of detainer requests. The county cited the fact that arrest report narratives are not text searchable, and the county does not keep tabs on that information separately.

Congressman August Pfluger, the top Republican on the House Homeland Security Intelligence and Counterterrorism Subcommittee, sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas regarding the recent Department of Homeland Security (DHS) intelligence report indicating that the Maduro regime is releasing violent prisoners from Venezuela to be sent in migrant caravans to the Southwest border.
“President Biden’s open border policies have allowed millions of illegal immigrants, including criminals from other countries, across the U.S. border,” said Congressman August Pfluger.
Hopefully he’ll find a place to live near the judge’s neighborhood school
