True, this vaccine uses a new technology, but it still functions just like vaccines made using older technologies. It causes the immune system to respond as if a pathogen is present and then to make T-cells, B-cells, and antibodies to fight that pathogen. It's a lot safer than actually being exposed to an active pathogen that's using your body to make copies of itself.
