We live in a strange time. I am not terribly thrilled with the cancel culture, even cancelling a bone head like this person.
Yes, which is why my wife made me quite Facebook. My political opinions could have put her job in jeopardy.
I’m not thrilled with cancel culture either. But since it’s here it cannot be a one-way street. Just like free speech - you can’t expel students for racist or homophobic languange but permit them to use antisemtic language. The double standards need to go.
There is also a question of where to draw the line. It is one thing to advocate for statehood or to condemn China for using concentration camps and slave labor (unless you are an NBA player or Disney exec). It’s another to endorse rape, baby killing and hostage taking. I think that’s an easy line to draw and she crossed it.
My wife also made a good point. They hired a person at her Christian school, and had they looked at that person’s pro-gay posts, they may not have hired her. I think that is fair.
Within days of the October 7th attack lists were being compiled of the companies, schools and individuals who supported Hamas. IIRC someone at Yale had thousands on his list.
Israel tracked down former Nazis for 80 years. Expect that the current lists of Hamas supporters will last a long time.
