I like that you appropriately blame Disney. I do that as well. Many people rarely interact with the natural world, and they take their cues on how to do so from Disney, with all those friendly anthropomorphized critters. I remember watching Wild Kingdom as a kid, and they showed the real deal of critters attacking and eating other critters.

I remember watching Wild Kingdom as a kid, and they showed the real deal of critters attacking and eating other critters. Me and my siblings too. It always cracked us up that Marlin Perkins, between segments, always found a way to tie in the behavior of wild animals to selling life insurance.
