Trump's talk this morning was excellent but he had to be vague on a lot of points (not naming names) because of the continuing gag order--Merchan could throw him in jail for violating it.
Turley doesn't think Merchan will order Trump to prison but he has been Pollyannaish throughout the trial. It probably depends on what the Biden White House tells him (whether they think it helps or hurts Biden to have Trump imprisoned). Short of prison, he could order house arrest or other things to make it hard for Trump to campaign. And Trump won't be able to vote in November unless the verdict is overturned before then.
So far the verdict has backfired...but the election is months away and we don't know what all the Democrats have planned.
I just checked this using Brave AI.
"In New York, felons can vote as long as they are not incarcerated." However, Trump is a resident of Florida and votes there, not in New York.
According to Brave AI, "According to the Florida Department of State, a felony conviction in another state makes a person ineligible to vote in Florida only if the conviction would make the person ineligible to vote in the state where the person was convicted."
This would appear to mean that Trump can still vote in November regardless, unless Merchan goes so far as to incarcerate Trump. THAT act would take us to a completely different level of engagement -- DEFCON 1.
