Good enuf fer goverment work!
Are people using them?
I was looking at a newly installed one last week & calculated that it would cost about the same to recharge a Tesla battery as it would to fill up my truck with gasoline.
Butti is too stupid to be insulted.
There's a joke in there, for sure, but I'm not going to go there.
Tesla is currently working on electric induction pads for their chargers. No cable required. Existing model cars would need an adaptor to be installed. Then simply drive near or over the induction pad to get a charge.
I often wonder why a socket is not provided on charging stations, so EV owners can use their own cable to plug in. Of course thieves could steal cables from privately owned vehicles. I have owned a non-Tesla EV for the last 5 years, but never carry my cable because I charge at home. Rarely charge elsewhere unless hundreds of miles away.
There is also another device that is basically a giant battery on wheels. It does require a human attendant to physically move it and attach it to your car. But one person can manage a dozen or more of these. The job mostly just “waiting around” and the occasional plug in or plug out. Otherwise ride around the parking lot, or, return the battery to be recharged for future use.
Yeah, especially in view of the guys w/ bolt cutters going around clipping those heavy power cables for their copper content.
That wouldn’t happen if the charging cables themselves were electrified if you cut into them. Sure, it’s got a rubber cover to keep you and me from shocking ourselves (not that I’ll ever have an EV to charge it), but cut through that and POOF and VOILA! Problem takes care of itself.
That sounds awkward, almost like using a wheeled generator. All that’s needed is a 220v NEMA 14-50 outlet, outside that is accessible by a privately owned cable. Mine is probably about 15 feet long and has a carrying case for storage in the trunk of the car.
I think it sounds innovative. You don’t need a whole lot of infrastructure just a few spots to park and charge these rolling battery packs. You don’t need dedicated parking spots and unattended wires. You just reserve your time in advance on the phone or car, and pull in. Then they bring the wire to you while you shop.
They’re already bolt-cutting the heavy cables at stations in the Bay area; so yeah, they’ll have to build some security into this fiasco or have them go the way of phone booths.
Kinda like some old Soviet era thing; “And now Comrades laugh and ridicule back sliders and counter revolutionaries''. Ha Ha. Now shoot them.
Google gerbils and gays. Legend has it they have special use for them. Now imagine a charger up there instead of a gerbil to get their morning jolt
Like I said, there’s a joke there, but I’m not going to go there!
I have never seen the ones at the supermarket being used but at the high school there is the occasional Tesla.
Pete’s b^ttplug is too tight; it’s compressing his brain.
