I largely agree. He was charged with three counts of assault in the third degree as a hate crime, one count of stalking in the third degree as a hate crime, and aggravated harassment in the second degree. I think “hate crime” is a legitimate issue for the judge in sentencing since it could impact the chance of recidivism and does impact general morals. Were he in a bar fight and yelled any of these comments I’d be less concerned about the recidivism aspect. However the crimes are assault, stalking and aggravated harassment. IMO, serious. I’m much more disturbed by the fact he was charged and immediately released. The “hate crime” aspect also could be a bail issue.
