I am not a lawyer, so the way I read it was ‘Don’t try this political crap on me again, or else’.

I am a lawyer, and one with over 40 years of trial experience. I read the order as the judge not giving the government the usual preference it expects and gets. All local Rules require consultation and discussion before a motion like this is filed. Usually, the government, and many large firms, simply do a one-sided pro forma email or telephone call and expect the court to overlook the real intent of the rule. However, if the shoe is on the other foot, you can be sure that the government will be the first to ask for sanctions, complaining about lack of consultation. Here Judge Cannon is simply treating both sides equally, much to her credit.

Not so much “political” as “entitled”.
I’ve had a couple of ancillary dealings with the DOJ and they were arrogant pricks for no reason.
