STURGEON, Mo. (KMIZ)
The City of Sturgeon's mayor resigned Saturday, according to a social media post from the city.
The city stated in the post that it received notice from Kevin Abrahamson that he has resigned his position as Mayor and resigned from the City Council, effective immediately. Aldermen Seth Truesdell will be taking over as Mayor Pro-Tem until the vacancy is filled, the post states.
The resignation comes after the city received backlash after a blind-and-deaf dog was shot and killed by a Sturgeon police officer last Sunday. In a social media post, the city claimed the officer saw the dog “behaving strangely and displaying signs of possible injuries” that was “perceived to be rabid behavior.”
In a separate post, the city said that “the city has reviewed the dispatch report and body camera footage regarding the recent dog at large incident," the post reads. "The City believes that the officer acted within his authority based on the information available to him at the time to protect against possible injury to citizens from what appeared to be an injured, sick, and abandoned dog.”
Bodycam footage shows the interaction a Sturgeon police officer had with a 13-pound, blind-and-deaf Shih Tzu before he shot the dog to death. ABC 17 News spoke with the owner of the dog, Nicholas Hunter previously who said he plans to take legal action against the city.
In a statement sent to ABC 17 News via email, Truesdell stated he was informed Friday evening that Abrahamson resigned
Truesdell also state the board had not seen the body camera footage until after it went public. He also said the board does not agree with statements made by Abrahamson, or the actions of the officer involved.
"The actions of the officer involved are not the values and beliefs of the residents of Sturgeon or the board of Alderman,"the statement reads. "Currently, I have made calls to the Boone County Sheriff to meet and discuss an investigation. The officer involved was placed on leave and will remain on leave until further notice. The board of Alderman will be holding a future special meeting to discuss personnel, including Officer Woodson. I personally give my condolences to the owners of Teddy."

Kindly take a look at my post #10. I’m thinking you will be dealing with this piece of garbage again. He’ll just be wearing a different police department patch on his right shoulder.
If you can watch on YouTube 1A Auditors in action. There a few of them skillful enuf at weeding out tyrants including police offers that shouldn’t be policing society.
Nite
Well, hopefully not. Mid-Missouri (outside of Columbia) is a pretty insular place. I’ll be surprised if a small town anywhere near here will pick him up. All that being said, as far as I know he’s still working for his primary employer. I could probably find out in about 30 seconds if he is or not...lol.
In this case, I’m in favor of defunding the police. for a town of 900, a police force is a luxury. They should just pay the county sheriff to provide a couple extra deputies. My little town has around 3,500 people and I want the same thing.
Back the Blue till it happens to you.
Woodson could claim that anyone exhibited rabid behavior and therefore kill them.
The “good cops” routinely ignore and tolerate the “bad cops” ; there is a lesson there for people.
Really no different from too many labor unions and professional organizations who protect the incompetent, lazy, and dangerous members.
Who wants to be a cop these days, with all the BS they have to put up with?
So they have to take whatever they can get.
Affirmative Action and DEI have infected police hiring practices for several years now and the result is what we are seeing today.
Possible serial killer?
“My guess is he won’t be bothering us much longer.”
That’s not my guess. Hope someone is keeping an eye on this psycho.
> So they [police departments] have to take whatever they can get. <
Yes, indeed. It’s kind of a death spiral.
I mentioned this on another post: A while back I was watching a video where some guy on a NYC sidewalk was talking to two young NYC cops. Both cops sounded like they were mentally challenged.
It was actually a bit shocking. But as you noted, I suppose that’s the best the NYPD could get.
I’ll take care of that for you. I see him probably 8-10 times a day.
