Who says the VP needs to be Trump’s successor? There are other positions within the Administration to place some MAGA superstars to succeed Trump. And there are GOP governors who will be good candidates.
I would rather have Trump’s successor come from the field rather than being his VP. It gives Trump more flexibility as the kingmaker in 2028. I guarantee you that Kamala Harris will not be the Dem nominee in 2028 regardless of what happens in 2024.
No one says so. But if someone is selected who would be a natural heir apparent, then he or she is given high profile and responsibility, then a big protracted primary battle can probably be avoided and the party can consolidate early in 2028
