Voters in Oregon were on the brink Wednesday of ousting progressive Portland DA Mike Schmidt and replacing him with one of his deputies who was once a Republican and has vowed to crack down on rampant crime and drug abuse.
As of Wednesday morning, with about 63% of the vote counted, Schmidt was trailing Nathan Vasquez by 11.9 percentage points — a difference of more than 117,000 votes, according to the latest tally.
“I am committed to fulfilling those campaign promises. I’m committed to ending the open-air drug use, to ending the open-air drug dealing that we have suffered from as a community,” Vasquez told his supporters Tuesday night.
“I am also committed to restoring that idea that it is OK to hold people accountable and doing it in a compassionate manner.”

The new guy was once a Republican? Isn’t that disqualifying in Portlandia? If not, he’d better be careful between now and election day lest the democrats nail him for thoughtcrime.
Hey, “Far-left Portland” ... elections have consequences ... don’t elect a soft on crime DA and then bitch about a huge crime rate increase.
It’s time to close down counting for 2 hours or more.
He was better as a pitcher than a prosecutor.
As a third baseman, he was a pretty lousy pitcher.
Antifa terrorists control Portland. They have since the 90s. No one gets in without there “help”
Schmidt would have to get 61% of the remaining votes to win.
Unless of course, somehow, boxes of Democrat votes turn up in the middle of the night, just after the polling HQ is shut down due to a “water leak.”
It’s the Dems, and it’s Portland. So Schmidt “miraculously” pulls this one out.
Stump town can burn, all out of care.
Calling Zucky and Georgey to help “get out the vote”.
How is it the next day and they are still counting???!?
I read the headline a couple times before I derived the intended meaning from it. Pretty poorly written
That was stupid 🙄 I was thinking of Steve Carlton; I was a Phillies phan from 1961 to 1998, even when I moved to FL in 79, but when Tampa Bay got its team I had to support the locals.
‘holding people accountable in a compassionate manner’ seems to be the problem.
The Rose City is now the Schiff smeared city.

No kidding, totally obtuse ... how about “by” instead of “to”?!
Thought I mighta heard a pig overhead today...
They won’t steal it. At this point a lot of the Democrats are fed up with things and want Republicans running the city and county as long as they aren’t taking away their abortion and queer stuff away.
It’s a start
