Anyone who has stood behind a food stamper in the checkout line is fully aware of the garbage food that is purchased.
That is true even in this rural area. Most of us are fit and not overweight. But drive 20 miles to the only real town-less than 900 people-with a small chain grocery store and you might see a really obese woman or two in the aisles/at the checkout with a cart full of deli and bakery stuff, packaged, frozen food, cases of soda, candy, jelly, Nutella, boxes of mac and cheese, instant potatoes, 6-8 loaves of white bread, etc, etc-and she swipes a LoneStar EBT card to pay for it all, as the non-overweight folks in the line give her looks that should knock her to the floor...
My folks owned a grocery store when I was growing up. We stopped accepting food stamps for this and similar reasons. It has always been a scam.
I don’t know about that, when I am in line buying hamburg I see a lot of Snap dependents buying top cuts of meat and not just one or two but a shopping cart full. None of them speak English.
Stand behind them? I have faced them, as in checked them out. I hardly ever saw anyone buy anything halfway nutritious with a SNAP card.
My son was a cashier in a grocery store. Some people buy expensive cuts of meat or frozen foods to resell. If you go to urban flea markets, you’ll find people selling food cheap.
