It seems to be a megadose of hypocrisy to me. We tell all sovereign nations on two continents that they are forbidden to allow any European nation to have a military base on their sovereign territory. Then we want to claim that Russia is unreasonable for forbidding Ukraine to bring a NATO base to its border.

Projecting our power over 5,000 miles, crossing an ocean, would face difficulties. The supply line would not go unchallenged. Missile and drone attacks would take a toll. That sort of distance complicates supporting a sufficiently large army, and such an army would require a draft. Napolean and Hitler discovered difficulties fighting a ground war against a nation with eleven time zones and twice the area of the United States.

Not many difficulties. We have plenty of experience doing this. Maybe you have no clue what the US Army is - it's the number one logistics company in the world. Those of us in combat arms is barely 1/8 of the Army, everyone else is there to support us. 7/8 of us is just beans and bullet delivery.

How do you expect Russia to do a bit of damage to US shipping, much less seriously challenge it? Russia has one aircraft carrier that can't even get out of drydock. (Assuming thedrydock doesn't sink again!) And she could barely run flight ops (with jets at 1/2 tank and maybe one bomb), much less actually threaten US ships. Russian submarines are iffy, and you better bet every single one of them is being followed. What drones does Russia have that could fly that far with ship-sinking payload? Even ignoring any anti-air defense systems? How are they getting through Europe to hit the Atlantic? What terminal guidance actual gets them to the ships? How are they finding the ships in the first place?

Russia is, at best, a local power that has trouble fighting it's itty-bitty neighbor, much less a real military. The only reason they're on the security council or anything else is because they have nukes. Most of which are likely rusted out and unable to fly, or even try to launch. Not nearly the threat most people think they are.
