IMHO, that will be the Antichrist setting up an image (idol?)
to himself in the Holy of Holies in a rebuilt 3rd Temple in Jerusalem. Seemingly impossible at this point.

And then the False Prophet brings the idol to life so that it may speak, and then the False Prophet forces the Mark of the Beast upon everyone but soon-to-be Tribulation Saints.

HOWEVER, this godless reprobate delusion is certainly a precursor to the coming Strong Delusion.
