"Elite draft dodging goes back to the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, right thru to Vietnam."

In 1863, when they enacted the draft, the Irish rioted in New York City. The riot started out against the unfairness of the draft, because rich people could pay someone to take their place on the battlefields. It then turned into a racial attack because the Irish knew that blacks were not subject to the draft, and they would take their jobs while they were drafted to go to war. Also during the Civil War, you could, if you had enough support, organize a local State regiment, and be elected Commander of that regiment by the officers who served under you. In Britain, one could at one time buy officer commissions in the military. You could also buy a seat in Parliament.

I now believe that purchased commissions and Rotten Boroughs actually provided superior leadership to the current degenerate military and political elites.
