I agree, and in general I don’t think school boards should be spending time and money on this.
Given where the district resides, the schools are named after three people who did a good deal to keep what were perceived as invaders at bay, at least one of whom can be considered a local boy who made good.
Ashby is an interesting person—he held that the raid on Harper’s Ferry marked the beginning of the civil war, and while he opposed session, opposition meant he thought that it was imprudent—not that it absolved him of his duty to his state and fellow Virginians. Some Yankees lit a fire in his belly by bayonetting his brother while he brother was attempting to surrender.
He also sounds like he would have fit better with Forrest than Jackson, under whom he actually served.

Think about NO YOUNG Person in America not hearing the names, Robert Lee, Stonewall Jackson, et al.
