When a small group of “America First” House Republicans fought to block Congress from approving a $95 billion package of foreign aid, none of them questioned the aid marked for Israel. The point of disagreement was rather the additional funding for Ukraine, which these dissenters viewed, correctly in my opinion, as a waste of money on a corrupt country in a doomed, faraway struggle that has little to do with American interests.
None of the Republicans questioned the aid to Israel because they know that even the mildest criticism of American support for Israel violates a taboo in American conservative politics and invites one’s blacklisting as an “anti-Semite.”
If any confirmation is needed that this is the unspoken rule on the American right, one may consider the attacks directed over the last few weeks at the online media stars Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens, both of whom have challenged the conservative establishment’s stridently held party line. Carlson is under fire from the both the Republican Party establishment and neoconservative commentators like Ben Shapiro, while Owens was fired from the media company Shapiro founded, The Daily Wire.
“My crime is that I do not believe that American taxpayers should have to pay for Israel’s wars or the wars of any other country,” Owens wrote on X after her firing.
Israel is by far the largest recipient of American foreign aid—particularly military aid. After this latest package, Israel will have received $323 billion in aid since its founding, according to the Council for Foreign Relations. Israel has received double the amount provided to the second-largest aid recipient (Egypt), and two-thirds of the aid to Israel is military aid. Given America’s $35 trillion national debt and its growing struggle to pay even the interest on such an enormous amount, Owens’ concerns warrant discussion.

Why are you so concerned about this when your City is run and inundated with marxists? It is a disgrace to the United States.
Given by a country 34 trillion zillion in debt...National suicide American style.
Hopefully, early on when Trump gets into office he will do a quick study of all foreign grants, loans, etc. and revamp the entire program. He can start by dismantling State’s AID office.
“Israel is by far the largest recipient of American foreign aid—particularly military aid. After this latest package, Israel will have received $323 billion in aid since its founding, according to the Council for Foreign Relations”
We spent nearly 10 times that amount in Afghanistan.
And the don’t count NATO as foreign aid. It’s just money we spend doing the defense of other countries. And that would utterly dwarf Israel.
I’m not for very much of it for anyone. But CFR is pretending it’s a mostly Israeli thing.
CFR is skewed.
Ukraine will soon eclipse the $323 billion sent to Israel. IIRC, they’re halfway there after just a few years.
The hatred still simmers amongst these paleoconservative characters.
Paleocons believe the (formerly Trotskyite) Neocons purged traditional conservatism from the conservative establishment. Which is how Trotskyites operate.
The hatred still simmers amongst these paleoconservative characters.
And Neocons don't hate?
If you're interested in the Paleocon side of the feud, Chronicles goes into it in their first podcast.
America first conservatives are the only true conservatives as far as I am concerned. Neoconservatism is a corruption of true conservatism.
Wish he could.
But... The President doesn’t control the budget. Lots of folks, many on here, like to bitch about signing the CRs, etc. It appears that many ignore or don’t know that Pres Trump asked Congress to produce a budget, as it should, and then head to the negotiating table. They never gave him a budget even Republicans had Congress and the White House. They dragged their feet and forced him into a CR/Omnibus situation.
He wanted money for the military and to handle a few other things. He could get what he wanted, but he was going to have give them what they wanted.
Think about it, he pushed for tax cuts. Rather than enshrine them, Congress made them temporary and they’re about to sunset.
He tried to defund public money going to the NGOs that fly illegals to the US. Congress and the NGOs fought back and won. So he, using the authority vested in the office, just reduced the number of visas and refugees allowed in. Doing that caused many of the organizations to lay folks or close up shop.
He got zero help from McConnell and Ryan in the first two years, obstructed him and has put us where we are today.
To think, the same scumbags are re-elected without trying.
100%
I’m fine with our support for Israel. Those October 7 terrorists killed around 30 American citizens over there. But I won’t hold it against Owens or Carlson for disagreeing.
Here’s a good explanation of what neoconservatism is:
“AMY GOODMAN: In 2006, you write that George W. Bush said to his father, “What’s a neocon?”
ANDREW COCKBURN: That’s right. One of the rare moments of sort of communication between the two. Bush said to — they were out at Kennebunkport, and Bush Jr. says, “Can I ask you a question? What’s a neocon?” And the father says, “Do you want names or a description?” The President says, “I’ll take a description.” He says, “I’ll give it to you in one word: Israel,”
Daddy - what’s a ‘neocon’?! Ethnic mafia wars is the USA

“… none of them questioned the aid marked for Israel.”
None of them questioned the aid to Hamas and the Palis, either.
Quote from the article:
None of the Republicans questioned the aid to Israel because they know that even the mildest criticism of American support for Israel violates a taboo in American conservative politics and invites one’s blacklisting as an “anti-Semite.”
A genuinely antisemitic article. To be truthful, it should have read:
“None of the Republicans questioned the aid to Israel because they know that Israel has been attacked by the Fakestinians who slaughtered over 1300 innocent citizens in cold blood and who also kidnapped and are torturing as we speak Israeli and American hostages. .... etcetera....a lot more could be said other than the crap in the article.
In short, there are many many good Americans, especially thinking of most Christians, who do things because they are the moral and proper things to do, without need of being castigated as somehow craven or cowardly or manipulated by some sort of dark, sinister Jewish cabal or “international Jewish conspiracy.” It may further be noted that several of the Congresspeople represent areas where there are very Jewish people in residence, their support base is almost entirely Protestant or Catholic.
Does the author think there are no good American citizens or righteous Christians? The hidden “logic” of the article requires such mistaken assumptions. The article is wrong.
Maybe, maybe not.
Some of the stuff on the internet is too “true” to really be true.
Cockburn’s father was a Communist liar, so maybe it runs in the family.
As Neoconservative David Horowitz explained, Neoconservativsm was born during the Six Day War.
Neoconservatives were Leftist Jews who were also fiercely pro-Israel and concerned with Soviet Jewry. But they supported all the left-wing, anti-establishment causes during the Sixties. They opposed traditional, Christian conservative values.
During the Six Day War, these Leftist Jewish Zionists saw their Black Panther allies, all their leftist allies, side with the Palestinians. And they saw Nixon support Israel during the Yom Kippur War.
And so Leftists Jewish Zionists came over to conservatism, primarily to help Israel and Soviet Jewry. But they remained hostile to America as a white Christian culture. They pushed for secularism, open borders, and libertarian morals concerning drugs and sex.
Neoconservatives waged war against traditionalist Russell Kirk types. They purged Joseph Sobran in the 1990s, and tried to purge Pat Buchanan.
They pushed for the Gulf War and the Iraq War, largely to make the Mideast a safer place for Israel.
Bandera?
Nixon knew it. Pat Buchanan knew it. Jim Traficant knew it. Tony Soprana knew it.
