” Nato is not a suicide pact where Estonia can attack someone and everyone else has to join in.”
Actually it is.
Worse than that, if a Deep State against the orders of its own government, engineers an attack against it, the NATO treaty still applies.
Nope. If a member state STARTS starts or gets involved in a war, the rest of NATO is not obligated.
Furthermore, Article 5 is wildly misconstrued as obligating others to go to war.
It only obligates them as follows.
” Article 5 provides that if a NATO Ally is the victim of an armed attack, each and every other member of the Alliance will consider this act of violence as an armed attack against all members and ***will take the actions it deems necessary*** to assist the Ally attacked.
That can be sanctions, a strongly worded letter, etc.
