Amen. Unfortunately, I think if you polled only people born after 1990, the vast majority would say we do.

They were *trained* to believe that. The shift occurred long before that.
Whatever Army TM governed political stuff, prior to World War II, pulled no punches. “Democracy is rule by masses. Attitude towards property communistic. Results in license, agitation, discontent. Mob rule.”
After World War II, all such pronouncements officially were all about how great Democracy was. One gem (among many howlers) I heard on a vintage 1950s Armed Forces Radio re-broadcast, “A dictator can’t take over in a Democracy. The people won’t allow it.”
They were also quick to admonish anyone for discrimination by way of ethnic or religious background. “Judge people by their character”.
All of this is now Verboten in the new Utopia they are building.
