I had to put a dog down once, and I understand how it can be necessary. In my case it was a beagle I had adopted - a dog that ended up having a serious "food aggression" issue. Normally that dog was just as nice as could be, but if she was standing over food - especially a bone - she became absolutely demonic. At the time I was on crutches with horrible hip arthritis, and there were two elderly women living in the house as well. It fiercely attacked one of my crutches one night, and that's when I knew that something drastic had to be done.

I did advertise her for re-homing for a couple of weeks, but in the ad I had to be truthful about the food aggression. There were no takers. At the time I was also between jobs, with finances starting to dwindle, so a trip to the vet was out.

I did what I had to do, but it was something that has haunted me since. I regret having to do it, but I don't regret having done it.

You would not want that dog, food and a toddler in the same area.

Sorry for that. I’d suspect that if you were writing a book trying to explain why you should be VP like Noem did, you would keep that story to yourself.
