HAVANA -- Alejandro Fonseca stood in line for several hours outside a bank in Havana hoping to withdraw Cuban pesos from an ATM, but when it was almost his turn, the cash ran out. He angrily hopped on his electric tricycle and traveled several kilometers to another branch where he finally managed to withdraw some money after wasting the entire morning.
“It shouldn’t be so difficult to get the money you earn by working,”...
Fonseca is one of an increasing number of frustrated Cubans who have to grapple with yet another hurdle while navigating the island's already complicated monetary system — a shortage of cash.
Long queues outside banks and ATM’s in the capital, Havana, and beyond start forming early in the day as people seek cash for routine transactions like buying food and other essentials.
Experts say there are several reasons behind the shortage, all somehow related to Cuba's deep economic crisis, one of the worst in decades.

Why do they need cash there’s nothing to buy
But hey, they have free health care.

We’ve been hearing this for 60 years. If it ever comes to a head we should pour gasoline on the fire. Depends on who’s in the WH. For that reason I think Rubio would make a good VP.
I would love to see a big, beautiful Trump Casino in Havana.
I see more boat lifts from Cuba in America’s future.
Not if they're conservatives. They'll get sent back, like Elian.
Bernie says bread lines are a good thing. It gets people out in the fresh air. They can talk about the wonders of the glorious revolution. And at the end of the day every one gets their loaf of bread, or not. Viva La revolution....
Go look at pictures of Saigon. It’s amazing.
Why? Communist Vietnam realized communism didn’t work and they abandoned it.
You’d think after 70+ years Cuba would figure this out.
Nah. let’s send them our excess illegals. Hopefully the island won’t tip over.
America for the Americans.
If Trump gets elected, I would welcome “encouraged” regime changes in Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to start. Canada and Brazil would have to be more subtle.
We need more guys like Milei in Argentina, and Bukele in El Salvador.
Trouble in Commie paradise? I’m shocked.
long lines have formed at our local walmart because of uncontrolled theft by illegal aliens ... they shut down ALL self-checkout lanes, refused to hire enough checkers to handle the volume and refused to implement express checkout lanes ... as a result, long lines of illegal aliens with full carts clogging the checkouts and no possibility for anyone with a couple of items to checkout without waiting forever ... walmart is the only store in town that has now made checkout of a couple of items a near impossibility ... [i delivered my cart to customer service, told ‘em they could put back the [refrigerated] stuff in it, and that i would never come back, after shopping there ever since the store opened 20 years ago]
Change in Haiti? Only if the DR runs the island.
This is the opposite of inflation
They were fortunate that there were still plenty of "Capitalists" left over from the days of South Vietnam, that actually knew how to do things. In Cuba, they all fled the country after the Revolution.
The DR isn’t stupid enough to try that. Just build a wall.
Why? Communist Vietnam realized communism didn’t work and they abandoned it.
