The man fatally shot by Seattle police officers at a Tukwila hotel last week was a retired U.S. Navy physician who is tied to an address in Hansville, Kitsap County, records show.
Bruce Coval Meneley,67, was identified Tuesday by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, which determined he died from multiple gunshot wounds and ruled his death a homicide.
Task force members were conducting a sting operation at the Double Tree Hotel in Tukwila to arrest a suspect who thought he was going to meet two young girls, ages 7 and 11, in a hotel room, according to an item posted Friday to SPD’s online blotter. p

Coroners only report on manner and cause of death.
Deciding whether or not a homicide is justifiable is done by a jury or in the case of a police shooting the investigative body tasked with that job.
I suppose whether it is justified or not is determined by a police investigation or court. Or - in the case of that TV show “Justified” - by the U.S. Marshal himself. (Loved that show!)
Yup...and IIRC his sister got some serious $$$ from NBC and/or the town’s police department for their perceived negligence.

There is no perfect system. Some under threat of the death penalty will kill their victims; however, some kill their victims even now at the threat of being beaten to death in prison.
It would send a strong message to have a few well-publicized executions if the victim was severely harmed; especially if the rapist forced them to abort a child resulting from the rape(s). That would indeed be an eye for an eye.
Of course child molestation is exponentially more serious than pickpocketing but the principle's the same. Kill the kid and she/he can't tesitfy against you.

One of the most serious mistaken thought patterns among conservatives is the same mistake progressives make -- expecting perfection! or nothing.
There is no perfect solution and there never can be. That is why science exists, to try various things and test the results, under a variety of conditions. There will never be a fool-proof answer to this problem. But what we are doing now clearly isn't good enough.
