Uhgg. "were ever". Word wrap gets me every time.
“IMHO, kids should pick a career before picking college. Talk to people already in that career, and ask them if college training is helpful and, if so, what degrees from what colleges are good.”
Good idea. Also, many employers would prefer to hire someone from a small southern or mid-west college that has a proven record of producing graduates knowledgeable in a certain field rather than someone with a degree from a well-known university.
College is a waste of time and money unless one is learning a marketable skill or fulfilling a graduate school requirement like medical or law school.
I was (in my former life) responsible for hiring some people. Knowing what I now know, seeing one of the Ivy League colleges on a resume would be a red flag for me. I don’t want to work with “woke” people. Good thing for “them” I’m retired now.
I didn’t know that Elon Musk opened a university. Perhaps one dedicated to STEM without woke crap would be a good idea.
