lamenting he does not have the votes to change the rules at this time.
Johnson’s carefully worded statement stopped short of outright calling for a rule change that could save his gavel, but he made clear he opposed the current rules and understands “the importance of that idea” of changing them.
Rep. Thomas Massie pointed out Johnson’s misleading statement, responding to it on social media.
“The Speaker tried to change the rules to eliminate the motion to vacate but he didn’t have the votes today,” Massie posted on X.

Read that again. He’s going to take control and rule with the Dems.
So Johnson lied when he said he had no concern whatsoever with a potential motion to vacate! He’s actively working to remove that obstacle and rule for a decade bringing victory after victory to the Dems.
This is getting beyond ridiculous. If true, then the GOP caucus needs to censure him.
Uniparty D and Uniparty R. Money for the MIC and FISA police state continuation are two of the issues important enough for the Deep State to have their Team R members step up and identify themselves. There are a few left who have not sold us out. Massie is one.
Johnson’s actions deserve harm.
Now we see why this guy is the “best” choice for Speaker that the great GOP majority was willing to vote for.
You folks really need to drop the cognitive dissonance and concede that we’re not voting our way out of this and start making alternate and backup lifestyle plans.
“Speaker Johnson and the uniparty are united behind their laundry list of bad ideas. From borrowing $95 billion from China to send it to other countries to killing a FISA warrant requirement – they’re ticking all the boxes to put America last,” @RandPaul
I have been saying this for months now, we CAN NOT vote our way out of this!! FAR TO MANY of us voted for decades just because there was an R next to the name LOOK at how many times we have put Graham back into office……SPIT, we are far past the point of no return, FAR PAST IT!!!
He is a total jerk.
He’s beyond compromised.
A dose of reality nobody wants to hear. We should be planning for what happens when the cheat is over. That is if there even is an election.
I agree, but we have to try with President Trump one more time.
Judas should be tarred and feathered.
I agree, but I still am not going to change my opinion on the proxy war in Ukraine.
This guy needs gone!
If Republicans need to bring in someone from the outside to be Speaker done it.
Ty do not have to be in the House to be Speaker.
I’m prepared to die for the US if necessary.I WILL NOT LIVE UNDER MARXISM.
Yes, I am very late in writing this, but I’m also very annoyed. That’s why I’m adding my voice to the now sustained chorus of complaints about Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and his imperium. You may be disappointed to hear that my concrete suggestions on how to draw an accurate portrait of Spkr. Johnson’s ideological alignment are sprinkled throughout this letter like raisins in a pudding, not grouped together in a single block of text at the end. This was a conscious decision I made based on the observation that Spkr. Johnson has had some success in dressing up his profit motive in the cloak of selfless altruism. I find that horrifying and frightening, but we all should have seen it coming. We all knew that ever since Spkr. Johnson decided to fleece us, his consistent, unvarying line has been that once he has approved of something it can’t possibly be supercilious. Here, again, we encounter the blurred thinking that is characteristic of this Spkr. Johnson-induced era of slogans and propaganda. Is Spkr. Johnson a pious person? Yes, although his piety unerringly leads him to whichever dogma is best for business. Speaking of which, if Spkr. Johnson had lived the short, sickly, miserable life of a chattel serf in the ages before technocracy he wouldn’t be so keen to defend Stalinism, Trotskyism, and notions of racial superiority. Maybe he’d even begin to realize that we see his apostles reach untold zeniths of ridiculousness each passing day. My current favorite comment of theirs is that we should willingly surrender power to Spkr.. Johnson’s brotherhood of acerbic, unrealistic bludgers. It’s that sort of flapdoodle that reminds me that in this world, there are biased, scornful saboteurs. There are unpatriotic, unsavory misers. There are rats who walk like men. And then there is Spkr. Johnson. Of those, I warrant that Rep. Johnson is the most subjectivism-prone because I’m at loggerheads with him on at least one important issue. Namely, Rep. Johnson argues that the world revolves around him. I take the opposite position, that the effects of Spkr. Johnson’s judgmental think pieces are not only pervasive but obvious to everyone except bloodthirsty, crafty wheeler-dealers, and everyone with half a brain understands that. The final thing I want to bring up in this letter is that I’ll do what I can to uplift individuals and communities on a global scale to participate in and contribute to a world free of aspheterism, and each of you reading this letter should do the same. Let’s be there for each other. Let’s help each other. And let’s guide the population toward what is healthy, decent, pure, and right.
