Well some of us come from families that have been here for the whole ride, and ended up shooting at each other back in the unpleasantness between 1861-65.
Not wanting to virtue signal but I’m from the Union side.
Why should we pay? Already paid at Antietam, Vicksburg, Chickamauga, etc. On the Reb side, they lost everything in most cases. G-G-Uncle was paroled at Appomattox by Gen. Grant with the remainder of his regiment...all three of them. Then he was deprived of his civil rights and moved West to be with the Union side of the family, it was safe from the Scalawags and Carpetbagger governments. Reconstruction was a hate crime targeting White Southern males.
So when is enough enough?
We all know the answer: never.
My point is about using the left's narratives against them.
If the left says we're "a nation of immigrants," then why should descendants of immigrants pay anything to descendants of slaves?
You can add your narrative alongside of that one to paint the full picture.
