The SCOTUS picks were by the Federalist Society. Trump cannot tell a good SCOTUS justice from a porn star. He just rubber stamped what he was given. We have to depend on the few remaining stellar conservative institutions like the FS to make picks.

Right out of the chute, Flynn was falsely accused by the DOJ and Pence. McConnell refused to go into recess for the entire Trump presidency to prevent recess appointments. So trump could only appoint people on the approved McConnell list. Then street terror and very well organized blacklists and boycotts appeared to destroy the lives and businesses of anyone even slightly serving the Trump administration. It was the death of your company and career to work there.
They were getting menaced or ejected from restaurants. Even their family members were losing jobs.
It’s very disingenuous to claim Trump is incapable of appointing decent people. An unprecedented combination of lawfare and terrorism and GOP roadblocks shrunk his pool to nothing.
