South Korea doesn’t required the DIE model from their shipbuilders.
A real and serious consequence of the economic theory “Triffin’s Dilemma”
I’m certain that if we just enact more diversity requirements, we can get to be as efficient at the Koreans.
We are mired in the 20th century somewhere around 1964..............
Forget shipbuilding, at least the Pentagon is getting to the root cause of “white rage”.
No invented here so they must be inferior to good old fashioned American know-how.
US shipbuilders do exactly what the DoD tells them to, and not a thing more.
If they were told to track things at this level, they would...and bill the government absurd amounts to do so.
All they sell is timecards. The government tells them how many they will buy, and for what.
If and when the Congress wants that kind of scrutiny and oversight, they can put up the cash.
In the meantime, occasionally a ship or two plops out the back end of the “process”, and everyone claps. They all got paid. But efficiency and timeliness are not part of the program.
Trade Unions
NVA bureaucratic oversight
Congressional District appeasement
etc
This country would never be able to produce enough war machinery if we ever ended up engaged in an actual war with another country. Supplying proxy wars like Ukraine are a completely different ball of wax. What we did in WWII, when it came to war-time production, will never be reproduced here again.
We are being set up for the takeover.
Add in the Cost Guard’s heavy ice breakers that are also delayed because they have to reinvent how to make hardened steel.
The answer is obviously more money, more graft, and more Union involvement. That’ll work...
Right?
THAT discovery by the Secretary has to be discouraging but I’m sure he knows just what the problem is...and who/what is to blame. He is a former Naval officer - Commander - and probably he saw things that were a lot different than they are today...There have to be many who are serving in all the branches today who are equally as disappointed. Some could say, “It’s not my father’s Navy” and that’s a real pity!
ALSO BAD FOR OUR COUNTRY.....
HIRE WITH DEI STANDARDS-—
NEVER WILL KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON.
THAT is with non-Union labor (aka; productive people not extortion tools).
Yes,, South Korea has not been able to go soft, they actaully have a live, operating existential military threat on their border. While the U.S. DOD since Obama has gone soft and wobbly, fat and happy with a Congress that demands no accountability.
China, South korea and Japan and are the largest three shipbuilders today. The U.S. gave up any ship building race long ago. If your nation is not big in shipbuilding period, how does your military ship building stay ahead? It doesn’t.
Go to Home Depot or Lowe’s. What the U.S. excels at producing are legions of young non-English-speaking Hispanic males strutting the muscle physique they built at the local air conditioned gym. They are in the stores to try to start fights with 76-year-old white guys. Makes the Aztecans feel real powerful.
