With US cities struggling, San Francisco has actually become a shining model of recovery
The Hill ^ | 04/11/2024 | JON E. BORTZ AND ALEX BASTIAN

Posted on 04/11/2024 7:41:40 AM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

A man with a needle in his arm. Streets littered with trash. Constant retail theft. Cars with broken windows from smash-and-grab auto burglaries.

These are some of the images that have been used recently to describe San Francisco. But even if that narrative may have been accurate a year ago, it is now contrary to what we generally see in San Francisco today.

In the San Francisco of spring 2024, you instead find commuters grabbing coffees and heading in to their offices; tourists admiring the streets comprised of unique Edwardian and Victorian architecture; friends enjoying the fresh fish at outdoor restaurants; and families playing in the beautiful parks. There is less crime and greater presence of police and city ambassadors. There are more drug arrests.

"Pebblebrook Hotel Trust"

Never heard of it, but their portfolio of 46 properties is very impressive and includes (no surprise) seven in SF.

They sure concocted a weird name, though. Not sure it would evince the same things as "Ritz-Carlton," "Marriott" or even "Hilton." But better than "Motel 6" and "Holiday Inn."

Half the former residents have moved to Oregon, and a lot to Bend Specifically. The other half moved elsewhere. All that’s left are Homeless Druggies and Illegals.

Sounds like they cherry picked the tourist areas - Golden Gate Park, Fisherman’s Wharf, the Embarcadero and Financial district - city is vested in keeping those areas nice for cash carrying tourists.

The reporters obviously didn’t go to Market Street or the area around the Civic Center - I was there a couple of months ago - saw no police presence or “ambassadors,” - but I did see plenty of filthy homeless encamptments, raving mentally ill, stretches of closed businesses - and druggies shooting up on the street in plain view.

Too bad the article doesn’t have comments. Would’ve been interesting to see reader response to this baloney.

The Hill - rancid leftist propaganda. A waste of time to read anything of theirs.

At the very bottom...

“Jon E. Bortz is chairman and CEO of Pebblebrook Hotel Trust. Alex Bastian is president and CEO of the Hotel Council of San Francisco.”

No wonder it’s at the bottom, eh?

Ashland has attracted them for decades.

They seem to love the small coastal towns.

Also, the Oregon ski resort areas/like Bend have attracted them for decades.

“San Francisco is nowhere near as nice, friendly, decent, vibrant, clean, orderly, or fun as it was 20 years ago. “

You should have seen it 50 years ago.
