Morning Consult data on U.S. voters’ top issues as of December 2023. Based on responses, Morning Consult ranked the issues in order of great importance to Americans when deciding whom to vote for. With the percentage that ranked each issue important, the top 12 were: the economy (73%), national security (67%), health care (65%), crime (63%), jobs (62%), taxes (61%), Social Security and Medicare (61%), immigration (59%), voting rights (58%), gun policy (55%), education (54%),  and abortion (49%). That’s right, abortion didn’t show up until the twelfth slot.

Some people will no doubt quickly point out that nearly half of Americans did say abortion was important; but note there was no “pro-life” option. Thus all the Americans like me who consider pro-life opposition to abortion a major issue would also have chosen abortion. Furthermore, there is data from another source to support the argument that, if pressed, most American voters will rate abortion much lower on the scale of importance than Democrats would wish.

Statista lists the percentage of American voters that put each of the following as their top issues: “inflation/prices” (20%), “healthcare” (14%), “immigration” (12%), “jobs & the economy” (11%), “climate & the environment” (8%), and “national security” (6%). Only 5% said abortion. If you combine “inflation/prices” and “jobs & the economy,” nearly a third of Americans — 31% — put economic problems as their top concern, versus 5% for abortion. My point is the same: There are a whole host of issues that most Americans consider more urgent than abortion.

They think it is a winning issue for them

They are wrong.

It certainly may be in some local places. As it is for the pro life side in some
local places.

However there is overall a pro life increment “search pro life increment for details” and no one should be apologizing for opposing the murder of children whether in the womb or outside of it.

I’ve been trying to research any public polling done in 1973 over the acceptability of abortion at the time. I always come up short handed on the internet. It might just take some digging into some newspapers.

Of course it isn’t. The economy is awful and people are going broke. Can’t afford rents and housing, food, gasoline. Tired of paying for foreign wars. Sick of woke.

People want their freedom back and in spite of everything, they know things were a whole lot better when Trump was POTUS.

We do not want a global world. We hate them. We hate Congress and we hate most of the scumbags in DC.

I believe the abortion issue is their “scapegoat” and cover for cheating via ballot harvesting. They need an “excuse” how they’re still winning amongst the worst economy in my lifetime.

I’m not sure I believe this—we saw what happened in ‘22.

Dems are also distracting you with claims that Ben Shapiro, Tucker Carlson, and what’s her name are all hating on each other.

Or course they are manufacturing it as an issue. That way when they again commit massive voting fraud they can claim it was just a large pushback on the abortion issue.

Every abortion “win” in any election was due to fraud.

All that happened was that the court rightly and laudably upheld an Arizona law that is over 150 years old and should be be reinstated now that the U.S. Supreme Court has recognized there is no federal, constitutional right to abortion. Abortion giant Planned Parenthood challenged the law, and the court did not cave, upholding the Arizona law instead (now if only the law would actually be enforced…which it won’t).

So, in other words, the abortion ban won't be enforced, won't save the lives of the unborn and can only hurt Trump and Kari Lake in 2024.

Sounds like the perfect scenario for establishment Republicans looking to undermine the MAGA movement.

How stupid do some have to be not to grasp that this yet another attempt at undermining free and fair elections?

I very much disagree with the conclusion that abortion will not be a key issue in the election, and I have a background in survey design and statistical analysis. One problem with the surveys is that they do not usually measure the intensity of people’s motivation. Heading into the 2022 mid-terms, surveys showed that the most important issues to voters were jobs and the economy (identified by more than then 50 percent) while “only 30 percent” of voters cited abortion. Hannity and other conservatives mistakenly interpreted these results to mean that abortion would not be a key issue. However, these 30 percent (probably representing mostly pro-abortion females) felt very strongly about the issue and no doubt turned out in droves. These highly motivated voters often made the difference in a number of close races and deprived Republicans of the expected “red wave.” Republicans need to come up with an effective strategy for neutralizing the abortion issue in 2024.

Wrong

it's the only issue.

It's the genesis, the nucleus, and the entirety of the Democrat strategy for turn out.

The economy and illegal immigration. Or illegal immigration and the economy. These are the issues, with foreign relations / the international situation a distant third.

It's not just "distraction". This is one issue Democrats really care about.

Whatever dishonest rhetorical flourishes they may deploy, they are 100% sincere about wanting to kill babies.
