Don’t be pedants, you dam well know that has been the common usage for a long, long time.

I'm going to keep on being a pedant because our dumbed-down culture leaves me with some pet peeves:

• "To decimate" means to reduce by a tenth, not to destroy or annihilate.

• An "apocalypse" is a disclosure, not a catastrophe.

• Even though it is widely used, "Prequel" is not a word. "Antecedent" or "precursor" should be used instead.

Educated people will surely agree with your analysis but also recognize that you are tilting at windmills.
