Whenever I leave the apartment, I carry: Springfield Armory XD-M .40S&W with three full mags of Speer Gold Dot, a Spyderco knife, small canister of Mace, large canister of bear spray, an Asp, tactical flashlight, and a Sig Sauer P365 as a backup.

Too slow to run.
Too old to fight effectively.

Had to make my wife this promise:
1. Know where the bad people are. Don’t go there.
2. If bad people are encountered, try to retreat.
3. If unable to safely retreat, use incremental force to discourage the bad people.
4. If life or limb is at imminent risk - draw and fire until threat neutralized.

I hate what my city is becoming, and I refuse to be a victim.

You need to watch the movie “Sahara”. You’ll know why when you laugh.

Good post. Your rule #3 is particularly valuable: “If bad people are encountered, try to retreat.”

Too many folks feel the need to “teach the criminals a lesson”, or some such thing. Nope. That only works in the movies. And that’s the job of the police anyway. It’s not the job of a civilian.

Many years ago I went to a demonstration given by a karate master. Very tough guy. He went over his rules for self-defense. His #1 rule: “Don’t be there.”

In other words: If there’s trouble in Dodge, get outta Dodge.

It seems as if we are in a time shift; living in the wild west.
