I think a lot of this change in strategy has to do with the situation brewing with Iran. For the time being, Hamas has been weakened so that they are not, at least for now, the serious threat they were before, and Israel has to prepare for a much more dire threat from the North and Iran.

Hamas murdered more than 1,000 Israelis on Oct. 7, but Iran is a thousand times more dangerous if they get the bomb...and the Obama/Biden pro-Iranian foreign policy all but guarantees that will happen before too long.
