We are opted out on smart meter for both gas and electric. Best decision I ever made.
“We are opted out on smart meter for both gas and electric. Best decision I ever made.”
We did the same thing. Smart meters basically give the utility companies charge of your life.
Local electric utility was really pushing those meters.
I opted out after they refused to say if the communications were two way or not.
The refusal to answer this simple question was answer enough.
Social score low?
SMART = Satellite Monitoring And Remote Tracking
Anyone who uses a *smart* anything is a fool.
Correct that is why I refused a smart meter from Entergy in Arkansas.
Figgered that out didja, Beege?
Us ‘tin hatters’ knew that when they first started installing them.
They offered her a new electric blanket.
Much prefer the old “spinner.” I knew how much juice was flowing.
New “black box” can only be read by the utility.
Yup!
Staring to think? Most knew this a decade ago…but like everything else we were labeled “conspiracy theorists “.
Duh.
Now we’re spoilers.
Us too. Zero interest in any””smart” crap in my house.

Yep, same here. Aside from the fact that in rural areas where residences are quite a ways from each other they have the radiation level cranked up on high, much much higher than cell phone output. They are cooking brains...
Just “starting”?
1st sentence. WTH?
2nd sentence. WTF?
Unless June was the correction month for some type of level billing, how the F did she have that bill for gas in the summer? How did her metered gas usage (not the billed value - the monthly usage) compare to previous years? If it is high, she might have a leak instead of a broken meter. Electricity usage is easy to double check the meter either by measuring each outlet or getting a clamp meter around the house's hot wire. Gas is harder to measure on your own.
If it isn't a leak, then this case sounds more like a bad meter than some eeeevil smart meter conspiracy.
A couple years ago I had a water bill with triple the normal usage. I quickly tracked down a basement toilet with a bad float valve which was silently running all the time and the water was going down the overflow outlet. My water usage went back to normal when fixed.
