So you don’t have sympathy for overdue books. Do you think it’s ok to charge her with a criminal offense snd issue a warrant for her arrest?

What’s going on with that judge? Does she resent all homeschool parents? Is she jealous that this woman has several children AND a husband living with the family?
Does this judge have blue hair?

This kind of thing happens when everyone involved is extremely stupid, maybe even moronic.

"After they returned the book, they did not receive any notices because they had moved away and believed the issue had been settled."

So, they returned the book late. Now, they owe $570 in late fees. That's excessive for one book. Either there's more to the story, or Texas libraries don't have a cap on late fees.

Many homeschool families borrow books from the library. Late fees can add up quickly. I knew a family who paid about $100 in late fees. At one point, I owed about $50 after I returned some books late (?). I forgot about that $50 fee, until I received a letter from lawyers representing the library.

Seinfeld really wasn't too far-fetched.

My public library card was my first official piece of government identification.

"Most libraries in MA are fine free."

Our libraries became fine-free, too, right after my kids grew up and stopped borrowing books from the library. lol

The original “scroll” teletype paper manuscript of On the Road lacks a portion:

Kerouac noted on the document that it had been “eaten by dog,” namely, the cocker spaniel owned by his friend Lucien Carr. Nobody knows how many inches or feet longer the 120-foot-long artifact used to be. (from the article: Manuscript of Jack Kerouac’s “On the Road” in Texas., May 15, 2008 as part of the coverage of the national tour).

The judge got angry and threw the book at her.

Metaphorically.

Libraries all have varying policies about fines and returns.

I worked in two university libraries from 1969-2017.

The aging policy that had to have the Board of Regents change it was a small standard replacement fee which did not approach being the modern day cost of the book, plus staff cost for new cataloging record and a maximum fine (not really ongoing day after day added up). Had to be revamped.

One story of the old system. Two Chinese students stole (kept out overdue forever) a number of carefully chosen large format art books worth hundreds of dollars each. They smiling agreed to the pittance of standard fines and paid in cash, walking out giggling. Their plan worked. My old boss was red faced but helpless to do anything.

Ahem. That is the Treasure Coast International Airport. We ain’t got no podunk, rinky dink, move the choks, muddy runway airport here. It is International. Why we haven’t had the Cowboy Club next door for decades now. You can’t beat a cow free airport for sophistication.

Either there's more to the story, or Texas libraries don't have a cap on late fees.

Wow, Texas is tough! Here in South SF in California, in Dec 2023 I tried to return a library book a day before it was due, but the library was closed, and the note on the door said it was closed for 2 weeks for Christmas break. I wanted a receipt. But times have changed for the modern era. I went online and the library extended my due date a couple more weeks, no dues, no problem. They have machines inside that issue a receipt when dropping off the book.

I think the woman should have been fined and it should have been a painful amount for her. Say $50.00.

But, arresting her over a damn book is ludicrous and PURE selective prosecution.

Put the President of the United States in handcuffs. Put Holder in prison. Put Hillary in prison. Put Hunter in Prison. Put Jim Biden in Prison. Put Obama in prison. Put Pelosi and Schiff in prison. Put the SOB that shot Ashleigh Babbitt in prison. Put Comey in prison. I could go on and on and on endlessly...........literally endlessly!

The Democrats have destroyed the Rule of Law in America lead by Holder and Obama/Biden and now Garland/Wray. But, let a struggling lady with 5 kids not return a Fn Library Book and the Democrats put her in prison. No incident illustrates better than this one how F’d up America is right now due to marxist lefty voters, crooked judges and lying legislators.
