In my local paper (So Cal) a Jack-in-the-Box franchisee owner was shown showing off his new automatic french fry maker and said he was going to install AI for the drive-thru ASAP. Mechanization has now become cost effective (also the machines don't call in sick, come in late to work, arrive drunk or hung over, etc.).

Other franchise owners are being forced to close - Foster Freeze in Leemore ,CA. The workers found out as they were on their way in to work - they said they'd rather keep lower pay than be out of a job.

I'd ask who they voted for (Gavin Newsom, most likely):

also the machines don't call in sick

because they are unable to do that when they break down.

I saw a fry machine at a McDonald’s in 2011.

They would put 3 or 4 big bags of frozen fries in the top and press a button. Baskets were stacked. The machine would grab a basket, par fry the potatoes, move the basket down the line and drop into a deep fry. Then it raised and dropped the fries onto a drying rack.

Salt and bag.
